Scripture: Proverbs 13:1 A wise son heeds his father’s instruction,but a mocker does not respond to rebukes.

Observation: Immediately the above scripture brought my father to mind. I remember during his battle with cancer we sat at the edge of his bed one evening and knowing he was going to die he started to relay to me how I shouldn't change who I was and continue to be just me. I don't remember the exact words or the feelings that I had at the time but I could sense my father's love for me. He was a cook, a carpenter, a house/car-painter, he sang and more than all of that he provided and loved us very much. I wish I had more time with him...he died at an early age of 45 years old...Oh how I would have loved to continue to hear his instructions...

Application: Our son has just graduated from High School one year ago and now going to college. The scripture reinforces my responsibility as a father to instruct our son according to God's word and will. Not only by words, but how I react to different situations. It is my actions as a father that will probably have the most impact on our son than just words alone. In either case, it is how I instruct him and by what method and beliefs I have that will pass to him from generation to generation.....oh what a responsibility indeed....!

Prayer: Lord thank you for reminding me of my responsibility as a father to my son. It is through your love, compassion and mercy that helps me to convey the same to my son. I cherish your instructions as my Heavenly father and pray it will bring me wisdom as a Husband, Father and Pastor....to you be the Glory in Jesus Name...Amen.
