Scripture: Joshua 24:25-2725 So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day at Shechem, committing them to follow the decrees and regulations of the Lord. 26 Joshua recorded these things in the Book of God’s Instructions. As a reminder of their agreement, he took a huge stone and rolled it beneath the terebinth tree beside the Tabernacle of the Lord.
27 Joshua said to all the people, “This stone has heard everything the Lord said to us. It will be a witness to testify against you if you go back on your word to God.” Observation: For some reason this passage caught my attention. Living on the homestead we have many boulders that were dug up prior to my mom folks farming the land. These boulders are huge and some of them are lined up in a row fronting our home. Not sure how they were formed or how they even got scattered through the 35 acres we are on but I'm sure they have witnessed hundreds of years of life and it's activities here on this land. It's interesting how Joshua also utilized "a huge stone" in the above scripture as a "witness" to the decree the people made unto the Lord. Application: Often times we need reminders about what God done for us in our lives. I guess you could call them life markers. For me it was a time when I finally realized what Jesus Christ had done on the cross for me....sacrificing his life....making Him Lord and saviour of my life...giving me His Holy Spirit to empower me and fulfill His will for my life. When I look at my wife and children he reminds me how blessed I am for a loving family (including my extended family). When I Pastor Heart of Aloha Church he reminds me how blessed I am to be responsible for this church Ohana...When I look at the huge boulders throughout our homestead it will reference reminders of God's goodness/greatness in my life. Prayer: Lord as I look out the window and watch the gentle rains fall on the land, it reminds me how your love is also gentle to my spirit. It is refreshing, it is rejuvenating, it quenches my thirst and life sustaining. I pray by Your Holy Spirit you will keep reminding me of why I wake up in the morning "grateful" and "thankful". I pray also that you will help me to continue to serve you and others well. Thank you for being patient with me, thank you for knowing my sinful nature and still extending your compassion to me in Jesus Name...Amen. | |
