Scripture: 45 David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. (NIV) 1st Samuel 17:45
Observation: Just about now all eyes are on young David, and a roaring orchestra piece crescendos in the background then pin-dropping silence when he speaks, as shuffling and murmuring of soldiers echo softly in the background. This is how I imagine it to be, somewhat of a "victorious" and climatic prelude before the main event. David was a man that not only knew his strength, because of killing a lion and bear in the fields protecting his sheep, but more importantly he knew God's Strength. For he knew God would not allow this Phillistine to taunt and defeat the Israelites (God's own people) because He fully trusted God for a victorious result. He didn't take a gamble on God---He whole heartedly Trusted God!
Application: We need to be real careful that we are not "rolling a dice" when it comes to our Trust in God. Unfortunately, the reality of it all is sometimes we waver back on forth in Trusting God...trusting ourselves...Trusting God...trusting ourselves. David's example above, leaves no room of doubt in who He Trusted in. And although the physical appearance of Goliath may have been intimidating (in fact it caused the Israelite Soldiers to literally run away), David looked beyond that --and looked to God.
Prayer: Lord there may be many areas in our lives that physically looks intimidating for us to find victory (relationships, finances, employment, etc.) but help us to be like David and Trust you Fully--with no room for doubt. With man it is impossible, with You All Things are Possible....in Jesus Name...Amen
