Topic: Contentment Scripture: 5Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."[a] 6So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?"[ (NIV) Hebrews 13:5
Observation: The scripture warns us about keeping our lives free of the love of money and to be content in what we have. We are also comforted to know that the Lord will not leave us or forsake us, for he is truly our helper in time of need. We can say and believe this in confidence. When I read a scripture like this, I think about the roof that covers my family, I think about the food that is plentiful in our cupboards, I think about the cars that we have, I think about the clothes that we have (that overfills the closet), I think about the experiences he had me go through to gain the knowledge and wisdom to be able to provide for my family. These are the things I think about.
Application: Resting and being content in what we have will bring about much peace, less anxiety and less stress in what the world wants to throw at us. There is nothing wrong with wanting material things as long as it doesn't overtake you, consume you, and more importantly turn you away from serving the Lord. I believe the key in living a joyful and happy life is being content in what you have.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for blessing me and my family abundantly. Thank you for providing for our needs daily, as you promised. Thank you that we can trust in you for all of our provisions for living. Thank you for allowing us to bless others too....in Jesus Name...Amen | |
