Topic: The House of the Lord

Scripture:

39 The people of Israel, including the Levites, are to bring their contributions of grain, new wine and oil to the storerooms where the articles for the sanctuary are kept and where the ministering priests, the gatekeepers and the singers stay.

"We will not neglect the house of our God

(NIV) Nehemiah 10:39

Observation:

After confessing and listing  the many sins that the people of Israel had committed to God, their hearts were ready turn around and put together a binding agreement in pledge and writing to commit to God.  But what really spoke out to me at the end of the chapter were these 9 words: "We will not neglect the house of our God".

Application:

The House of the Lord, The Church, The Gathering Place, The Sanctuary, or simply where we meet to Worship the Lord is considered to be a Holy place.  This is the place where we have designated to corporately thank the Lord, to praise Him, to worship Him, and even to introduce others to Him.  But the question that comes to mind is: What are we doing as individuals to serve in the House of the Lord?  What are we doing or not doing that may cause us to "neglect the house of our God"?  These are the burning questions that stir up my spirit when I read the above passage of scripture.  This applies to all of us from the Pastor to the Greeter at the front door.

Prayer:

Lord my prayer today is that you would help us as Christians to be mindful of our role that you have assigned us in the Church. That we would not rest in the sense of being complacent when it comes to taking care of the House of the Lord but that we be motivated to serve you even more...in Jesus name....Amen..
