Topic: Honesty Scripture: 1 After this, Job opened his mouth and cursed the day of his birth. 2 He said: 3 "May the day of my birth perish, and the night it was said, 'A boy is born!' 4 That day—may it turn to darkness; may God above not care about it; may no light shine upon it (NIV) Job 3:1-4
Observation: After the hardship of losing his family, livestock, home, etc. Job became quite bitter as the above scripture reveals. It sounds like he literally threw up his hands and basically said I wish I wasn't born. One might step back and say...whoaa....he really said that?...did he say that to God?
Application: I really don't think God is surprised, caught off guard, or amazed in a response like Job's. In reality, I think God wants us to be honest in the way we feel. He is the one that created us with those emotions. But I also think God wants us to look at Him for direction, to look at Him for comfort, to look at Him for peace, to look at Him as our strength and source. It might have sounded like Job was going off the handle sort of speak, but can you imagine being in Job's position. Remember he was also covered with sores and boils, pretty harsh I might say. We might find ourselves harshly questioning God, laying everything out to him because of our mountain of challenges, but we must never forget to have reverence and fear of Him
Prayer: Lord as my Trust, Faith and Love for You increases, I pray that any harshness, bitterness, or unforgiveness I have will diminish in my life. But in the meantime help me along that righteous path as I encounter these challenges one by one.......in Jesus name ...Amen | |
