Topic: Jesus our Solid Foundation
Scripture: 10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it. 11 For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (NASB) 1 Corinthians 3:10-11
Observation: Several weeks ago my nephew and I were digging about a half dozen deep holes to set some large wooden poles in it. We were planning to pour cement in the holes to really secure the poles that supported an aluminum canopy frame--basically laying a solid foundation for support. The poles were set in about 18" of cement and I buried some aluminum straps in the cement and bolted it to the poles as an added support. I just wanted to make sure it was solid. In the same way, as we set the foundation as leaders for those coming after us we must be sure we are laying it on the foundation of Jesus Christ, something solid. Not only that but we must also be attentive and focused on mentoring those that are potential leaders to follow on that same foundation. If not, the house will come down so to speak.
Application: Many go through life building their lives and chasing after money, fame, drugs, alcohol, envy, false gods and elusive relationships. And yet none of these are solid enough to stand the test of time or for eternity. None of these will offer a peace, joy and abundant life that can only be built on the foundation of Christ. Building our lives on the foundation of Christ is not for us alone but to be taught and lived out for the next generation right behind us. We as leaders of the Church have a responsibility to carry out all that we can, all that we have been gifted by God and all that we have been entrusted with to assure the foundation is solid.
Prayer: Lord thank you for your compassion and mercy in our lives even though we don't deserve it. I thank you for your son Jesus Christ and for the power of Your Holy Spirit that brings comfort, speaks truth and brings revelation as to what is to come. Help me to carry out building a foundation on Jesus Christ and keep me on the right path in doing so. There are so many distractions Lord help me to discern where my time should be spent....in Jesus Name....Amen | |
