Topic: Giving

Scripture:  7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”[c] 8 And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. 9 As the Scriptures say, “They share freely and give generously to the poor.Their good deeds will be remembered forever.”[d] (NLT) 2 Corinthians 9:7-9

Observation:  It's interesting how the statement "decide in your heart" is mentioned, it doesn't say decide with your mind and intellect, but in your heart.  It also says not to give reluctantly as if dragging or pulling it out of us or feeling pressured to do so....these are great indicators that help us to discern how to give. Sort of like those flashing indicators on our dashboard of our cars when something is wrong with our engine (low oil, low tire, overheated radiator, etc.)  Instead the Bible tells us that God "loves" a cheerful giver and when we give in this way it "will be remembered forever".

Application:  God is the one that gives us the seed or ability to give.  And if we recognize where this seed comes from we will not worry or fret about what we need from day to day for He already knows what we need and He has many more seeds.  Giving is also not an obligation but comes from a heart of gratefulness and cheerfulness.  It is not something forced upon us either where we feel coerced, manipulated or even hyped up to give.  The important thing is to be obedient in our giving as we sense in our spirit.  I know there have been times in my giving where  it didn't make any sense to my natural mind, but I knew in my spirit I needed to give a certain amount.  I believe God honors this.

Prayer:  Lord when I think about the wealth, treasures, supply and the richness you have that is unlimited----why would I even flinch at your provision for my life.  Yes Lord you have been so faithful.....thank you......help me to see beyond my needs and look towards those that are in need.....physically, emotionally and spiritually....point me to these people Lord...in Jesus Name....Amen.
