Topic: Helping people
Scripture: 13 When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality. (NLT) Romans 12:13
Observation: Today's scripture is pretty straight forward. If we see that a fellow brother or sister in Christ needs help...simply be ready to help! We are ALSO encouraged by the Apostle Paul to practice hospitality which is something we automatically do here in the Islands. It is not uncommon to be invited to a person's home and the first thing they tell you is if you want something to eat or drink. Another saying is: "Make yourself at home". In other words make yourself comfortable as if this was your home. Sometimes it is easier for some then others and that's why we need to "practice" hospitality.
Application: Practicing hospitality is something done on an intentional level. We may not be accustomed to it or feel comfortable doing it but that's why we need to "practice". This could mean having people stay at your home instead of a hotel, inviting them over for lunch or dinner, bringing them a special gift of some sort, maybe even an encouraging word to help them through their day. Whatever the case Paul tells us to "practice". Loving one another involves action.....
Prayer: Lord help me to be open to opportunities of hospitality. Lord I pray you would give me the right heart and motivation to help those in need when it arises. I enter this day with a "grateful heart" because of You...in Jesus Name...Amen. | |
