Scripture: 21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him (NIV) Matthew 4:21-22

Observation: I couldn't help to think about John and James' father Zebedee when reading this passage.  I imagine both sons tirelessly working with their father through early mornings and long days to help with the fishing then one day to be called out by Jesus, the Son of God. I wonder what was going through Zebedee's mind. Was he joyful? Did his heart sadden to see his son's go? Did he launch out that day? Was there anyone else around he could call on to help him fish that day?

Application: As a father I think I would be overjoyed to know that my children were called out by Jesus to follow him. Would I miss them? Of course! But what an "eternal impact" on their lives that would be.

When Jesus calls us from where we are in our lives whether a fisherman, carpenter, doctor, teacher, etc., more than likely he is calling you to be a better fisherman, carpenter, doctor, teacher, etc. just where you are to impact people around you. But sometimes  he will also call you out of that profession but he will definitely utilize the skills, talent and giftings you have already acquired (and continue to help you grow and discover new gifts) As Christians we just need to be obedient and Follow....follow....follow.

Prayer: Lord thank you for opening my eyes up a little more this morning in realizing that your son Jesus Christ was a man that walked this earth in the same way I do, yet still relied  on you in prayer and a close-intimate relationship all throughout his time here. He paid the price for me..not sure if I will ever grasp that kind of love but help me to continue to follow......in Jesus name Amen.
