Scripture: 39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. (NIV) Mark 4:39 Observation: One thing I couldn't understand when reading this section in Mark (4) is how Jesus was sleeping on the stern of the boat while the waves and wind was crashing and blowing against the boat. The text tells us that the disciples had to wake him up. The waves actually broke over the boat til it was nearly swamped...hmmmm. Either Jesus was really tired or simply not "phased" by what was going on all around him. Application: There are many storms we will face during our lifetime. At times it will seem like the waves are crashing so hard in our lives that we feel like we're almost swamped in our boat. When we feel like we're in that situation we must remember that Jesus is the one that calm the storm in our lives. We need to have faith to know that he can tell the storm to "be still--be quiet". When our faith seems to falter, let's call on the name of Jesus. Prayer: Lord Jesus thank you that even in a storm there is piece in the "eye of the storm". Help me to keep my eyes fixed on you whenever faced with turbulent situations. I pray for your protection and endurance to come out of whatever storm I will face. Help me to bring that sense of peace and faith to others too who really need to latch on to you......Thank you for another day of life....and for a restful sleep....in Jesus Name....Amen. | |
